SOFREL LogUp with ScadaBOSS

LACROIXSOFREL LogUp
4G LPWAN data logger

The SOFREL LogUp is LACROIX's sealed, battery-powered cellular data logger for drinking water and wastewater networks. It needs no power and no panel: it wakes, measures, logs, and sends — on a schedule, and at once when a value crosses a threshold. ScadaBOSS brings every LogUp onto one map with trends, alarms and reports.

How the data reaches ScadaBOSS

1 · LogUplogs every 5–15 min; sends daily, or at once on a threshold
2 · LX CONNECTLACROIX's device cloud: configuration, firmware, certificates
3 · ScadaBOSSreads LX CONNECT every 5 min with each sample's own time
4 · Peoplemap, trends, e-mail and push alarms, reports

What every site gets

  • A card on Fleet and a marker on the Map
  • Trends with no gaps, even on a once-a-day send
  • Alarms by e-mail and push, with delays and deadbands
  • A missed call-in alarm when a logger goes quiet (26 h)
  • Battery left and signal tracked, alarmed months ahead
  • Reports by day, week and month

Typical settings

  • Log every 5–15 minutes
  • Send once a day — the battery's best friend
  • Thresholds in the logger for anything urgent: it calls in at once
  • LX CONNECT shows the battery estimate as settings change
  • Signal better than −95 dBm is comfortable; worse, add an external antenna

Lift stations

LACROIXSOFREL LogUp
pack 222

Know a lift station is falling behind before it overflows: wet-well level every few minutes, a high-level float as the hard backup, and the pump panel's fail contact — on a battery, with no tie-in to the station's power or controls.

Inputs

LogUp inputSensorScadaBOSS tagIn the logger
Analog 1 (4–20 mA)Submersible level transducer, 2-wire loop-powered, e.g. 0–15 ft; hung above the pump volute, below pump-offWetWell_Level_ftLog 5 min · threshold at high-high → send at once

On site

  • Kellems grip on the transducer cable; loop the spare outside the splash zone
  • Gas-tight splices — Hâ‚‚S eats bare copper
  • Intrinsically safe barrier if the well is classified
  • Check the signal from inside the hatch; mount topside or add an antenna if weak

What you see

  • Level with the pump on / off levels drawn on the trend
  • The float and pump-fail state beside the level
  • Every high-level event in the alarm history, with time to clear
  • Wet-weather response next to the rain gauge
Why the float matters: the transducer is the operating picture; the float is the alarm that still works if the transducer is ragged up. Wire both, even when the transducer seems enough.

Tanks and standpipes

LACROIXSOFREL LogUp
pack 222

Level for daily operation and for the fire reserve, a hatch alarm, and the fast drain that gives a main break away — from a transmitter at the base tap, with no power at the tank.

Inputs

On site

  • Tap → isolation ball valve → snubber → transmitter
  • Mount in the valve vault above flood level
  • Heat-trace or insulate where it freezes — a frozen line reads flat, then fails
  • No base tap: a submersible transducer from the roof hatch

What you see

  • Level as a tank picture on the map, with the fill-on / fill-off levels
  • The daily draw and refill as a trend
  • The fastest drain of the week — the number the rate alarm is set from
Set the rate alarm after a week: a main break drains faster than any demand. Read the week's fastest normal drain on the trend and set the alarm just above it.

Booster stations and PRVs

LACROIXSOFREL LogUp

Pressure at two points at once — a booster's suction and discharge, or a pressure-reducing valve's inlet and outlet — with alarms on loss of pressure. LACROIX lists two-point pressure monitoring among the LogUp's core uses.

On site

  • A snubber on every pump-side tap — pulsation kills bare transmitters
  • Use a spare aux block for pump-run, never the coil terminals
  • Short pressure dips need a short log period: ask about the right setting for transients

What you see

  • Both pressures on one trend, the setpoint drawn on it
  • Pump running time and starts from the run contact
  • Every low-pressure event with its depth and length

District metering and leaks

LACROIXSOFREL LogUp
pack 222

A zone's inflow every few minutes and its pressure, from the meter you already have. The number that matters is the minimum night flow: when people sleep, what still flows is mostly leakage — and when it creeps up, a leak is growing.

Inputs

LogUp inputSensorScadaBOSS tagNotes

On site

  • Use the meter's pulse or open-collector output; note its gallons per pulse
  • Most meter vaults flood — the LogUp is IP68 to 4 m for 30 days
  • An external antenna on the lid if the vault is deep

What you see

  • The zone's daily curve, with its night minimum marked
  • Night flow as a month-long trend — a leak shows as a slope
  • Daily and monthly volumes for the water balance
In the demo: the South zone's night flow climbs from about 100 to over 140 gpm in a month while the North zone stays flat — the alarm catches it long before anyone sees water on the street.

Large customer and wholesale meters

LACROIXSOFREL LogUp
pack 202

Read your biggest customers and wholesale connections every few minutes instead of once a month: use by hour and by shift, a warning when a customer draws far more than usual, and clean totals for billing and the water balance.

Where it pays

  • Food, beverage and other heavy industrial users
  • Wholesale sales to neighbouring systems — LACROIX lists billing and volume control between networks
  • Hospitals, schools, institutions on a large service

What you see

  • Use by hour, by day, by shift
  • A monthly report per customer, ready for billing
  • Wash-downs and process events as spikes on the trend
In the demo: the food plant runs two shifts — 145 gpm by day, a trickle at night, and the odd clean-in-place wash-down that trips the high-use alarm.

CSO outfalls and rainfall

LACROIXSOFREL LogUp
packs 222 · 202

Know when, how long and roughly how much a combined sewer overflow spilled — and the rain that caused it. LACROIX lists CSO detection with counts, durations and estimated volumes, and rain-gauge pulse counting, among the LogUp's core uses.

On site

  • The float at the crest proves a spill even if the level sensor fouls
  • Rain gauge level, clear of trees and roofs; clean the funnel each season
  • In the logger: a threshold at the crest so a spill is sent at once

What you see

  • Chamber level and rainfall on one trend
  • Every spill with its start, length and estimated volume
  • A monthly report for the permit — counts, minutes, gallons
Volumes are estimates. Gallons over the weir come from the chamber level and the weir's shape; agree the method with your regulator before it goes in a report.

Chlorine, pH and conductivity

LACROIXSOFREL LogUp
pack M222

Residual chlorine where it matters — a tank outlet, the far end of a zone, a dead end — read from a Modbus water-quality sensor by an M-pack LogUp. LACROIX lists chlorine, pH and conductivity monitoring with anomaly alerts among the LogUp's uses.

On site

  • Choose a sensor rated for battery operation and intermittent power-up
  • Sample line with a steady flow past the probe; drain to waste
  • Calibration and membrane changes follow the sensor maker's schedule
  • A Modbus sensor costs the battery more — check LX CONNECT's estimate

What you see

  • Residual beside the tank level: water age shows as a slow sag
  • A daily minimum and average for compliance records
  • Every low-residual event with its length
Ask before you buy a sensor: not every Modbus water-quality sensor suits a battery logger. We will check the sensor against the LogUp with LACROIX before it is ordered.
